Bhavani Iyer

Certification: RYT 500

Favorite food: Puri. It is a deep-fried bread made from whole-wheat flour usually eaten with a potato-based side dish.

Favorite place: My grandparents’ home in Chennai, India.

Hobbies: Taking multiple yoga classes in a row, reading, watching The Office, making/drinking fruit juices, and journaling!

What is your favorite pose and why? I love shoelace pose because it feels so good on my hips and spine. In addition to it being a fun pose to stretch in after a long yoga flow, I love how the pose can be modified in so many ways to accommodate all different body types.

When did you start practicing yoga? I took my very first yoga class during my freshman year of high school, sometime during the Winter of 2017, with my teachers Tiffany Mack and Amanda Ellul.

Who are your teachers and where did you train? After being both fascinated and intrigued by its practice, I took my very first in-studio yoga class with Tommy Mack, who immediately became a positive influence in my yoga practice. I embarked on my 200-hour teacher training journey with both him and Shelly Stempfle just before my senior year of high school at Practice Yoga Studio. More recently, I completed a 300-hour training through Lifetime Fitness.

What is your motto? “Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.” Dr. Seuss
